Black & White, or Colour in Street Photography

Let me start off by saying this is not about BW vs. Colour. It's your work, therefore your preference, your choice. And it's always good to have choices.

I'm a BW guy, it appeals to me more so than the colour. It could be the fact that a lot of the old photos were taken in BW, and they somehow left a strong impression at the back of my subliminal level.

Call it Nostalgia if you will.

But aren't all photos a record of the past ? a moment that's gone the moment it is captured.

A film Leica:

The reason why I'd started a film Leica camera was because of the BW it makes. I'd read an article praising the Leica lens renders the best tonality, some even called it the Leica glow. So naturally it gave me the strongest motivation to get into the Leica ecosystem. This is almost 2 decades ago.

In all honesty, I don't know if the claim on the Leica was true. It turns out I'm not a pixel peeping type. I'm guessing pixel peeping did exist in the film era, just not as common or as convenient as the digital.

Colour, or more specifically the multi-colour,  is distracting, and it's even painful to my eyes during post processing. This is probably the biggest reason why I shy away from colour.

Funny thing is, I don't particularly enjoy watching BW movies.
