Sony's open gate

Sony, open gate please

Now that I'm a Sony fan boy, I wasn't expecting the new Panasonic Lumix S1II to be this soon and this powerful.  Or at least on the paper, the Lumix looks like it's on steroid, including its autofocusing. It pains me to say the Lumix looks more impressive than the Sony FX2.

I'm still very comfortable with the old FX30, and I've invested some minor things such as the CFExpress Type A, the reader, and an Autofocus anamorphic lens made by the Blazar. I'd never wanted to get into the Type A card, and would much prefer using an external SSD. But no, Sony wants us to go Type A.

These minor accessories didn't cost a lot, but being wasteful is also not in my game plan. I insist on keeping them accessories, so you could say I'm stuck with Sony. On a practical side, the work flow, eg. colour management from two cameras, would be a whole lot easier / faster if I were to remained in the Sony ecosystem.

With all the latest and the greatest features Lumix has to offer, as awesome as they may be, they are not that relevant to me. All except the Open gate, something which Sony FX30 or the FX2 has not. I don't know why Sony is not offering, even an entry level FX30 deserves some love once in a while.

I want a FF with an open gate camera. The sheer reason is the Anamorphic lens. I absolutely love the rendering made by an anamorphic, and I think having an open gate would greatly benefit the game. Also, the camera needs to be  50:50, well balance between video and photo, so I could explore anamorphic in the still photography.
