In order to set up a half decent "cinema" camera, you'd need to rig a few things. Let's try listing the items from the ground up: a tripod, a ball head, maybe a slider, a camera and lens, a matte box and filters, a sound mixer, a mic or two, and lastly a screen. Sure enough, lighting is also very important. And oh, don't forget the power.
These items need to be glued together, so we have a camera cage, clams, plates, magic arms, light stands. You'd need also to be able to control them, either wirelessly or using cables. We have USBC for power, USBA for the sound mixer, power cable for the wall, HDMI for the monitor, XLR for the mic. The list goes on.
The cables are dangling everywhere, while it's not a pleasant sight, but at least now you can start shooting, yes?
Nope. The slider and the lights are controlled by an App installed in your phone. And different brand uses different App, there just isn't a single App to rule them all. Therefore, you're going back and forth between apps trying to figure out what's what. And sometimes, not all the time, the moment you open an App, there's a message telling you to update the OS.
I'm not being ungrateful, I do appreciate the reliability of using a cable, and I do benefit the convenience of a wireless, and new updates are always welcome. But it doesn't change the fact they become a drag when everything is put under one roof.
Maybe this is the fun of video making.
