Let's start by saying I have not even seen the actual camera, let alone using one. But I wanted to applaud Fujifilm for coming out with a half frame camera when the market has been obsessed with "the biggest and the greatest" mentality.
Looking at the specs, there's nothing special about the X Half. Frankly, if you were after the film experience, you would and you should use a a film camera to truly grasp the sensation only a film camera could provide. But then it's not a good idea to be head strong, it's bad for the health.
Photography is declining, while photography is at all time high. Declining because, well, cameras these days are mostly video centric. Compact cameras are becoming a rarity, we have the Leica M and the Ricoh GR, a purist if you will. Yet photography is at all time high because of the smart phones.
Let's face it, using a phone is ridiculously convenient, and its rendering is crazy good. But using a phone is no fun, something about its handling just doesn't seem right. Our expectation has risen, not only would we expect image quality and size, but HANDLING as well. Options are what we need, maybe we have no love for a GR ? maybe the Leica M is a precious metal more than a tool ? maybe we don't care about making videos ? maybe we want a compact camera just for the heck of it ?
Being able to choose, tops having just one perfect camera. I appreciate Fujifilm for giving us options.
If you have yourself a X Half, you might want to take a look out at our Essential Strap , all minimal retro leather strap. It should go pretty well with the camera.
