Canon Selphy CP1500

You really should print your photos: Canon Selphy CP1500

You make prints,  turn them into a scrap book, a photo book, a log book, whatever book you see fit. It's not the outcome, it's the process that makes it so enjoyable. You become more involved with your work, at least it's more engaging than simply posting the images online and call it a day.

I actually enjoy using this little printer from Canon. It doesn't do museum grade, it doesn't print big. Basically it doesn't do anything on a professional level. But the trade offs are great,  it's nice and compact, and it's easy to use. This is practical in HK where space is a precious commodity.

Its print size is a little shy from the traditional 4R, but it's plenty big for sharing, a good size for you to pass around during social gatherings. Nice and fun, more engaging than just passing the phone around.

For specs, please visit the official Canon  . It's quite pointless to repeat myself here.

Because this is not a professional grade printer, the cost of operation is relatively low, the average cost is HKD 2 per print, ink and paper inclusive. It certainly is reasonable.

Now the Cons. The Selphy CP1500 uses USBC and wifi for connection. One would think the USBC would power the printer, a nice feature to have if you plan to take the printer out on the street. But all it does is connecting to your computer, not a single drop of W would go into the printer. Canon forces you to get the battery (which is sold separately) , or use the power block that came with the printer.  A business decision that I understand and respect.

The printer is small if all by its lonesome.  But when you're actually doing the printing, a paper feeder would need to be attached in front, papers stay flat with belly up, while it goes through the printer back and forth a couple of times. So the space needed to make a print increases a fair amount.  So give the printer some room in the front and also at the back.

It's quite easy to work around the Cons, so really, the cons are not that of a big deal. If you're into photography, I think Printing is an integral part of it. And in all fairness, not everything should be on a professional level, having fun is all that matters, and I think this little printer is worth exploring.
